Online ticket booking system of the Ukrainian Railway (UZ) and Russian (RZD)

Despite the nice weather, I have researched in front of the computer on the online ticket booking system of the Ukrainian Railway(UZ) as well as that of Russian (RZD) with my poor Russian & with the help of some Ukrainians... Indeed, Google Translator worked really well :)

Now that we can purchase train tickets on the internet, I tried to buy a train ticket on the national railways websites. Note that I have not tried to buy on the website of travel agencies!

I wanted to buy an international train ticket from Ukraine to Russia. I had already found the exact train schedule on the Deutsche Bahn(DB) website, but it's impossible to book on the DB site. At first, I had a look at the Russian Railway(RZD) website. Despite the fact that the online timetable and online bookings are only available in Russian, I could check the schedule of my train and could find that online booking is possible. I created my account at RZD and tried to purchase a ticket. The procedure is really clear-cut and easy to proceed. I guess, the RZD has more sophisticated booking system than the JR (Japan Railway).

On the way to checking out the purchase, I have found that I will get a kind of voucher(not a E-ticket) after the purchase, and that I need to pick up the real ticket at the RZD ticket office prior to boarding. Here I had a question. As I am getting on the train in Ukraine, can I pick up the real ticket in Ukraine? According to the RZD, ticket should be piced up at the ticket office of RZD, or self-service terminal machine. I posted this question at a travel site in Kyiv. Some Ukrainians told me that it is impossible to exchange a Russian online voucher in Ukraine. Insted, my train ticket was also possible to be purchased on the Ukrainian Railway (UZ) website. I gave up to book my international ticket at RZD.

Then, I had a looked at the UZ website and also created my account. At UZ, only the Ukrainian language was available to proceed the booking although some pages such as login and checkout were shown in other languages including English. The price at UZ was slightly higher than that at RZD because the UZ online site charges some commission(around 7 UAH). My ticket price with platskart was 278 UAH at UZ although the same ticket at RZD costs 1085 RUB. As the Ukrainians pointed out, it's safer to buy at UZ so that I can easily pick up my real ticket in Ukraine.

The payment was done by credit cards and the UZ, as well as the RZD, has adopted the 3D secure system, which is provided by visa or master credit company, and which is really common in Japan. Thus, I completed my transaction without doubt. At UZ, there were two or three option that customers can choose the payment company or method in the end of purchase. At first, I chose Raiffeisen Bank and proceeded 3D secure payment. However, the transaction failed and I went back to the page that I chose the payment company. Then I chose the second bank (cannot remember the name) and successfully completed the payment transaction with 3D secure.

Finally, I reported and thanked the Ukrainians who helped me buy a ticket. However, another Ukrainian asked me the way in which I paid on the website. He told me that it would be impossible to use my card issued outside Ukraine. According to him, only cards issued by Ukrainian banks are acceptable. As I had already completed my transaction, perhaps foreign issued cards can be used on the website. At this point, I remembered my experience that I tried to pay by card at the ticket office in Ukraine. Only one time, I could buy a train ticket by my card, although there was a notice that only credit cards issued in Ukraine were acceptable. On the other hand, another time when I tried to buy a ticket by my card, the ticket officer refused to slip my card. Thus I had to pay by cash, which would be most of cases...

According to my own experience, foreign issued credit cards can be used in the Ukrainian ticket office systematically. However, the UZ seems to refuse foreign issued cards politically.

Although I have completed to book my ticket on the internet, I have not used this ticket in Ukraine. I hope that I can pick up the real ticket in Ukraine and get on the train without any problems...

Après le cours de francais en septembre

Le cours est mon cours final de l'université. En septembre, je devrai me préparer à retourner au Japon. D'abord, je fermerai mon compte bancaire de Deutsche Bank. Et puis, j'emballerai mes bagages et je les enverrai au Japon. Ca coutera beaucoup parce que Japon est situé très loin de l'Allemagne. En autre, j'irai à Hambourg la semaine prochaine pour avoir un visa russe. La Russie a une mauvaise réputation de la bureaucratie. En général, les visiteurs européens et japonais doivent obtenir des visas. Pour cela, je devais préparer à beaucoup de documents et je devais payer beaucoup pour eux. J'espère que je pourrai l'obtenir sans problèmes. À la fin de Septembre, je voudrais faire une fête d'adieu avec mes amis et mes colocataires. Il est très triste de partir de Göttingen. Cependant je devrai partir.

Ma vie professionnêlle au Japon

J'ai travaillé pour une entreprise d'informatique à Tokyo après mes études au Japon. Il était très difficile de trouver un poste en 2004 parce que l'économie du Japon était très mauvais et il y avait peu de postes disponibles. Heureusement, j'ai pu trouver un poste. L'entreprise avait des magasins sur internet et j'étais un spécialiste en Marketing en ligne qui encourage les ventes des magasins. Mon poste était très interessant et passionnant. Et puis, j'ai pu me perfectionner en anglais car les partenaires d'affaires étaient des entreprises américaines. Mais, je n'aimais pas parler en anglais. Le samedi, quand je ne travaillais pas, j'apprenais l'allemand au Goethe Institut à Tokyo. J'ai trouvé que l'allemand était plus intéressant que l'anglais. En général, je étais satisfait de mon travail. Mes collègues et ma patronne étaient sympathiques et j'ai pu gagner relativement bien. Mais, il y avait un problème que je détestais. C'étaient mes vacances. Je n'ai pas pu prendre de vacances longtempses. Le Japon a une mauvaise reputation du travail longtemps. Mon loisir est voyager à l'etranger. J'ai voulu voyager longtemps et habiter en Europe. Quand je connaissais l'anglais excellemment et l'allemand bien, j'ai décidé d'étudier à l'université de Göttingen. Finalement, j'ai démissionné de mon poste au Japon où j'ai travaillé pendant cinq ans.
Maintenant, je crois que mon choix de venir en Allemagne était bien.

À l'université

Maintenant, j'apprends le francais à l'université. Le matin, je participe à un cours de francais. C'est très difficile parce que j'ai appris le francais seulement quatre mois. Après le cours, il est midi. Je vais toujours au restaurant universitaire. Les Étudiants peuvent y déjeuner bon marche.

C'est interdit de fumer dans le bâtiment de l'université. Les fumeurs doivent fumer dehors. À ma grande surprise, on peux acheter bieres à la cafétéria et le restaurant univerisitaire de Göttingen. Nous ne pouvons pas les acheter à l'université japonaise!

Nous n'avons pas besoin de nous habiller en costume cravate à l'occasion des examens en Allemagne. Mais, nous devons nous habiller en Pologne. Je le sais parce que j'y ai etudié l'année dernière.

Je passe plus de temps à la bibliothèque. J'y lis souvent des livres d'histoire et des magazines. Je trouve que la bibliothèque de l'université est excellente. Il y a des ordinateurs à la bibliothéque, mais je ne les utilise pas parce que j'ai mon propre ordinateur portable.

C'est bien sur interdit de passer des coups de téléphone à la bibliothéque.
